Bayliss Energy was founded in 1954 by Jim Bayliss.
Jim spent most of his life in the Oil Patch staring in 1919 as a roughneck in the great oil strikes in Wyoming. He worked throughout the world with companies such as Anglo Iranian (later called BP) and Shell, in places such as Iran, Burma, Trinidad and Egypt. By the time he settled in Australia in 1948 he had risen through the ranks from roughneck to driller, drilling superintendent, purchasing & stores supervisor to drilling manager.
With this wealth of knowledge and expertise, Jim began representing the finest manufacturers or oilfield equipment throughout Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand. They included, Hughes Tool Company, Cameron Iron works, Baker Oil Tools, Bowen Oil Tools, Drilco, Mission Manufacturing Company, Kuster Company, Totco etc.
During the exciting, busy and challenging sixties the company grew, employing over 20 staff trained to provide the services and products demanded by the industry. Bruce Bayliss Joined the company in 1970 taking it over when Jim Bayliss retired in 1972. Soon after, the oil industry began to decline with some principals opening their own offices in Singapore and Jakarta while others left the industry altogether. In response, the Bayliss Company diversified serving the wider energy industry in Australia and New Zealand and representing a broader range of quality equipment manufacturers.
The company now known as Bayliss Energy continues to represent many of its original principals such as Kuster Company and has sourced agencies for other leading manufacturers to meet the widest possible range of needs of companies in the energy resources industry.
